What I think has happened is that art and craft have blended-that strict line is getting crossed and blurred in new ways. JH: VH: You've had a large presence on the Internet and specifically on message boards over the years. Have you noticed any change in the perception of what being crafty means during that time? Rob Walker, who wrote the book Buying In, has spent a lot of time talking to me and others in the DIY community. One of the things he pinpointed was that this doesn't seem to be as much a craft movement as it is a work movement.

CD: VH: So how did you end up getting your own show, The Carol Duvall Show? That was another stroke of luck. The original host of 1he Home Show was Robb Weller. After leaving Home, Robb had joined forces with TV writer Gary Grossman and formed a television production company. The two men had been pitching ideas to a brand new network, Home and Garden Television (HGTV), and when Robb learned that 1he Home Show was about to go off the air, he contacted me. He thought a craft show with me as the host was exactly what the new network needed.

My little sister rIopetoo--shelovesto craft even more than I do! She was always making stuff and tearing stuff up. When you went into her room, you'd always find stuff she painted with puffy paint. So the two of them opened the doors for me-just being around them--I didn't have much of a choice at my house. As an adult, it was probably meeting my friends with the Austin Craft Mafia, especially Tina Sparkles and Jenny rIart. " It really helped to have the two of them with me at the exact same time I was going through my own growing pains and starting my business; they were starting Sublime Stitching and Sparkle Craft.
