Add water to the bottom pan of the double boiler until half full. Don't overfill, because the water might boil over and splash into the wax, which will ruin the candles. 8. Check the water level in the bottom pan occasionally and add water as needed. Wax can reach unsafe temperatures if the bottom pan is allowed to run dry while on the burner. 9.

    The ice will harden the wax on contact, and a new candle will form that contains contours and pockets left by the ice. The size of the ice chips dictates the size of the indentations.
