All the other original buildings built for the fair were renovated or completely reconstructed in preparation for the subsequent expositions. However, the Negro Building and the Main Building from the first Appalachian Exposition were deemed exemplary structures by the architectural commission and allowed to stand as they were. Later, Chilhowee Park passed into private ownership and eventually fell into disrepair, during which time the Negro Building was demolished. Today, Chilhowee is once again a public park, but all that remains of the Negro Building is a memory.
